We have heard of grand openings for sports events, but nothing could beat the opening weekend of the 2022 season of the East Coast Youth Cricket League.
The 2022 season itself set the record number of teams registered with 63 teams in the age groups of 11, 13, 15,17 and 19. Due to the sheer number of games, the challenge posed with grounds and umpires forced to move U17 and U19 games to weekdays during summer vacation.
Another uniqueness of the season is we have a girls team registered in EYCL. In the past, we did have girls embedded in teams but this year DreamCricket Dragons registered as an all girl team in the U13 age group. EYCL is proud in promoting women’s cricket in the region. The team won their first match
Numbers
1 triple century, 11 Centuries, 6 half centuries, one 9 Wicket, one 7 wicket, one 5 wicket, two 4 wicket and ten 3 wicket hauls. Never seen such records in the opening weekend. This shows the hunger of kids who are hibernating indoors during the winter and roaring to jump right into the season to showcase their newly acquired and sharpened skills.
All the records we mentioned happened during the opening weekend at the 22 games conducted in the age groups of U11, U13 and U15. These dominant performances are across all age groups.
